Brunch & Lunch in Antwerp

Belgians don't celebrate Brunch/ Lunch properly as in Canada and the US but the situation is improving (slowly). Ok so maybe you won't find eggs Benedit or chuevos rancheros on the Menu but the Belgian alternatives are also worth a try.

The Uitsmijter, Croque Monsieur, Croque Madame, soft boiled eggs, Belgium waffles, farmers omelet are typical items on every menu.

Breakfast
A typical and very popular breakfast chain is Le Pain Quotidien. It's pricey but cozy and serves a variety of breads made on the premises. Typically the breakfasts here consists of breads, toasted or untoasted, with several marmalades, jams, and nut spreads. Other common toppings include sliced meats and cheeses. Pastries and croissants may be served on Sundays, but are mostly not eaten on weekdays. Breakfast is usually accompanied by coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, or fresh juice.

Here are Le Pain Quotidien locations in Antwerp.

I came here quite often in the past. They have very nice snacks and a lot of news papers and magazines. Only in Dutch of course but you can come here and sit a few hours here while drinking a soup, a coffee and read your own book or magazine.

Last time I took an ‘uitsmijter’. It’s a dish with bread, eggs ham and cheese. I’ve never seen it out of Belgium or The Netherlands so try this one!

In the summer there is a great terrace. It’s a very relaxed no nonsense bar. People and staff are chilled and stress is a word they don’t really know.

Ideal stop on my Southern walk! Small but attractive beer selection.

This is one of the most remarkable modern buildings along the river Scheldt. Architect Bob Van Reeth designed this contemporary restaurant. Have your brunch with a glass of champagne while enjoying a superb view of the river through large windows

lunch

For a Foodies lunch try the Troubadour or this special venue Het Pomphuis

Other trendy locations for Breakfast, Brunch or Lunch are in the trendy South District. Try one of the venues in front of the The Royal Museum for Fine Arts

The best burger in town and far around. Ok, maybe it isn’t exactly an American Burger but I think it’s even better. A real big crusty sandwich with a big hamburger between it.

There are at least 4 versions with 3 different types of meat. Lamb for vegetarians ;)It means that they have actually 16 different burgers on their menu. We often eat them on Saturday or Sunday after a small walk. They are delicious. They have also very healthy and innovative juices…
