Hotel Rubens Antwerp is a high-end establishment focused on small groups of business travelers and knowledgeable tourists alike. It is particularly popular with couples for romantic getaways or among location savy tourists. From this quaint hotel, you’re only a:
The location is ideal in summer time when the smell of fresh baked goods hover on the window ledges. In terms of accessibility – you couldn’t get much easier. You can walk to all the major Antwerp attractions – so if you don’t want to rent a car, no problem! In the Grand Place proper you will find shops and restaurants sure to please any pallet.
The exterior has an 18th century look and a distinctive air of romance. It’s located in a small street and there is an inner courtyard where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet. Or you can sip some complementary aperitifs and free drinks in the lobby or in the room near by with a TV.
It’s a smaller hotel with only 36 rooms, so you want to book early, particularly if you want a suite. The rooms here are open and airy, each with a distinctive decorating theme. For amenities there is cable TV, a mini-bar, Wi-Fi, a safe and both a telephone and hairdryer. I love the wooden floors, so much more pleasant then dusty carpets.
You can also get limited room service. The hard part is choosing between a view of St. Paul’s or the lush garden. The suits have a private terrace, ideal for morning coffee or an open-air dinner. By the way, a very decent breakfast buffet is included in the cost of your room.
From the business point of view the rooms only seat 30 people (and there are only two meeting rooms). However, daylight is plentiful and you can utilise a projector, screen and flip-chart.
Although the hotel could use a bit of a facelift. Friendly staff and the great location helped balance out the “dressings”.
