belgian tervuren breeders

It is not easy to find good belgian tervuren breeders. The breed is not very popular in North America yet and even in his home country he is not super popular. I am an absolute admirer all the Belgian sheepdogs. The goal of this page is to give you your first guidance in your purchase of this working dog.

Firstly you should think before you act. Do you really want a Belgian Tervueren? This dog is a quick learner, but needs a firm hand. He will learn bad things as fast as good things and in the hands of an inexperienced trainer, the dog can become difficult to control and will dominate its owner. Ask the belgian tervuren breeders for more information on what the character of their dogs is.

He likes to work, he has a lot of temperament and he is considered to be the best guard in the house (forgot your gun). He has an amazing physical condition that puts him ahead of most other working dogs.

Ideally he has an owner who is crazy about doing sports with him. Watching sports on TV is not enough. His favorite sports are agility and guarding or actually anything that takes a lot of energy!

Like all Belgian Shepherds, the Belgian Tervuren is a medium-sized and square-proportioned dog in the sheepdog family. The Tervuren has a long mahogany coat with black overlay. It has black erect ears and a black muzzle. It has a square build in comparison to the German shepherd. They are grey and oker dogs too, but this will be penalized in contests and is not the preferred color.

Tervuren dogs are about 24–26 in (61–66 cm), while bitches are about 22–24 in (56–61 cm) at the withers. Bitches are said to average 25–30 kg (55–65 lb), while sires are heavier at 29–34 kg (65–75 lb).

The other varieties of Belgian Shepherd are distinguished by their coats and colors: the Malinois is the same color as the Tervuren with short hair, the Laekenois is the same color, only it may lack the black mask and ears, and has wirehair, the Groenendael has long hair and is solid black. All the Belgian Shepherds share the same physical qualities, but the Malinois is the outstanding working dog. There are however very good Tervuerens as well who can and will compete at the highest Ring or IPO level. However this breed bred for beauty and not for working. Check the Belgian tervuren breeders before you decide on your purchase of your puppie.

And that brings us to your second consideration. Will you take a real working dog or a Tervuren that has been bred for beauty? Even though both will have this sharpness and assertivity that is so typical for this dog breed, the one born to work will always excel in this. On the other hand, the dog breed for beauty will win every beauty contest from a real working dog. It is pivotal that you decide what your style is.

Well-raised and trained Tervurens are usually very active, friendly, protective and hard working. Many have excessively high prey drive. Some may be excessively exuberant or playful, especially when young. They can be destructive or develop neurotic behaviors if not provided enough stimulation and exercise. These are large, strong dogs that require consistent obedience training, and Tervuerens enjoy being challenged with new tasks. The belgian tervuren breeders make sure that the dog will have an enjoyable but strong character that suits your needs.

I include a few links of good tervuren breeders. Important is that you take a dog with a good pedigree and no diseases in his family
