belgian malinois puppies for sale
It is not easy to find good belgian malinois puppies for sale. As a dog lover and absolute admirer of this breed, the goal of this page is to give you your first guidance in your purchase of this working dog.
Firstly you should think before you act. Do you really want a Belgian Malinois? This dog is a quick learner, but needs a firm hand. He will learn bad things as fast as good things and in the hands of an inexperienced trainer, the dog can become difficult to control and will dominate its owner.
He likes to work, he has a lot of temperament and he is considered to be the best guard in the house (forget your gun). He has an amazing physical condition that puts him ahead of all other working dogs.
Ideally he has an owner who is crazy about doing sports with him. Watching sports on TV is not enough. His favorite sports are agility and guarding or actually anything that takes a lot of energy!
Like all Belgian Shepherds, the Belgian Malinois is a medium-sized and square-proportioned dog in the sheepdog family. The Malinois has a short mahogany coat with black overlay. It has black erect ears and a black muzzle. It has a square build in comparison to the German Shepherd.
Malinois dogs are about 24–26 in (61–66 cm), while bitches are about 22–24 in (56–61 cm) at the withers. Bitches are said to average 25–30 kg (55–65 lb), while sires are heavier at 29–34 kg (65–75 lb). We see that dogs in general are a little bit bigger the last 20 years.
The other varieties of Belgian Shepherd are distinguished by their coats and colors: the Tervuren is the same color as the Malinois but grey is also possible with long hair, the Laekenois is the same color, only it may lack the black mask and ears, and has wirehair, the Groenendael has long hair and is solid black. All the Belgian Shepherds share the same physical qualities, but it is only the Malinois who is outstanding as a working dog. There are however very good Tervuerens and Groenendaels as well. These last two however have been usually bred for beauty and not for working.
And that brings us to your second consideration. Will you take a real working dog or a Malinois that has been bred for beauty? Even though both will have this sharpness and assertivity that is so typical for this dog breed, the one born to work will always excel in this. On the other hand, the dog breed for beauty will win every beauty contest from a real working dog. It is pivotal that you decide what your style is.
Well-raised and trained Malinois` are usually very active, friendly, protective and hard working. Many have excessively high prey drive. Some may be excessively exuberant or playful, especially when young. They can be destructive or develop neurotic behaviors if not provided enough stimulation and exercise. These are large, strong dogs that require consistent obedience training. The Malinois enjoys being challenged with new tasks and neither water nor fire will fear or stop him
