Every Saturday from Easter through to October antique dealers and tourists crowd the street that runs alongside the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp's Historic Centre. Although you are unlikely to find any real bargains at the antique market, this is a good place to pick up a more unusual souvenir. Don't be afraid to haggle.

And then the celebrations continue with the Christmas Market. An absolutely magical event. There are wooden huts in the middle of the square selling all sorts of traditional specialities. You can sip mulled wine under the Christmas tree or try one of Antwerp's famous jenevers while warming up next to a cozy open fire.

15 August: Rubens Market:
8 AM to 10 PM - Admission free

This market on the 'Grote Markt' in honour to Antwerps' most famous resident. Traders dress in period costume to peddle their wares, turning the Grote Markt into a replica of one of the master's works.
