Belgium weather

Belgium weather is maritime and usually mild. Flanders is on the same latitude as southern England, so the climate is comparable.

Average daily Antwerp January temperature: 6°C / 43°F
Average daily Antwerp July temperature: 23°C / 73°F

Amidst the sunny days in Antwerp, rainy, grey days are also commonplace in any season.
The sunniest Belgium weather is usually experienced during the months of May and August, although both April and also September can be alluring and extremely pleasant.

When to visit:

Late spring: When the northern European days are long and the summer crowds have not yet filled the beaches, the highways, or the museums.

Summer: Most Belgians are on vacation in July and August. You will be able to get a break on hotel prices. However this is also vacation time for many restaurants.

July and August generally feature the warmest climate in Antwerp although also the wettest.

Fall: September and October: it’s still pleasantly warm and there are fewer tourists so you have full access to all the attractions.

Winter: December to March, Antwerp is surprisingly mild and even during January (coldest) nighttime temperature often stays above freezing. Temperatures begin to drop sharply towards the end of September and the autumnal weather brings slightly raised levels of rainfall and shorter days.

belgium-weather Snow in Antwerp is rather unusual (our cat was perplexed by the “white stuff” two winters ago when she got caught outside). Those pictures were taken in the early morning - by 4pm there was no sign of snow left.

Rain and fog and heavy morning mists are far more likely January and February.

The biggest
challenge in winter is the lack of sunlight. It comes out around 9 and disappears again around 4.
